Spark Centre Helps Innovative Companies Start, Grow and Succeed in Durham Region and Northumberland County
Whitby, ON (March 7, 2012) – Today, Innovation Durham Northumberland (IDN) announces that it has changed its name to Spark Centre. Spark Centre helps start and grow innovative technology-based companies in Durham Region and Northumberland County.
“The name Spark Centre speaks to our role as a catalyst for innovation and entrepreneurship”, says Martin Croteau, Executive Director of Spark Centre. “It also acknowledges the importance of the energy sector in our regions.”
Created by the Durham Strategic Energy Alliance, Spark Centre is one of fourteen not-for-profit Regional Innovation Centres (RICs) that are members of the Ontario Network of Excellence (ONE).
Spark Centre is creating an innovation eco-system of entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, researchers and students who come together to exchange ideas and help each other succeed, ultimately creating jobs and wealth. Spark Centre offers business coaching and mentorship, learning tools, connections to business and research networks, and help with access to investment.
“We have big plans to bring the community together in the weeks and months to come”; says Croteau. Spark Centre is planning a ‘Pitch Contest’ for anyone who has a great business idea or concept. Not only is there a chance to win prizes, but the finalists get to present their idea to potential investors at Spark Centre’s Innovation Showcase to be held May 3, 2012. The winner will also get the chance to turn their innovative idea into an incorporated business through expert advice and funding resources provided by Spark Centre.
