Next Session:

The next event will take place on March 15, 2018. We will be joined by two investors, Matthew Leibowitz from Plaza Ventures and Russel Samuels from Whitecap Venture Partners.

Whitecap Venture Partners is an early stage venture capital fund investing in high growth companies across three verticals:

  • Information & Communications Technologies (ICT)
  • Food Tech
  • Med Tech

About Russell Samuels

Prior to joining Whitecap, Russell was a Senior Manager on the Corporate & Business Development team at Freshbooks, a growth stage startup and North America’s 2nd largest cloud accounting provider.

Prior to Freshbooks, Russell spent nearly three years as an Associate at Mantella Venture Partners (“MantellaVP”), a $20M seed stage venture capital fund in Toronto.

Prior to joining Mantella Venture Partners in July 2011, Russell spent 2 years as an Analyst at Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (“CPPIB”) in the Private Investments group.

Russell holds an HBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business and a JD from the University of Western Ontario.

Plaza Ventures invests in growth stage technology companies. It has been investing since 2008 and introduced a unique micro-fund structure in 2014. The micro-funds invest in 4 to 5 new companies each year at Series A and Series B, and also invest in follow-on rounds and special situations for our high-growth portfolio companies. The Plaza Ventures rarely invests in consumer-facing companies, preferring B2B business models.

The current focus is on companies with $3M+ in recurring revenues, looking to build on early product-market traction with investment in sales and marketing.

Plaza Ventures invests $1M to $2M in funding in A-rounds, coupled with advisory services to help accelerate growth and deliver liquidity outcomes.
