Project Manager - Special Projects

We’re looking for a Project Manager to join our growing team! We’re a collaborative, fun, and focused team, and we’re looking for a resourceful, proactive and adaptable team player to add to our roster. The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.


Position Profile

Reporting to the Director of Finance – Special Projects, this role provides the operational support required to ensure the efficient and effective management of the Hardware Catalyst Initiative and other Special Projects, as well as adhere to external reporting deadlines.


The HCI is Canada’s first incubator to focus on hardware and silicon solutions. The HCI is for tech companies building solutions for technologies like AI, IoT, wearable computing, 5G, and other transformative technologies that will enable the creation of globally disruptive products and solutions. The HCI will strengthen our region’s existing deep tech expertise and support hardware and silicon-based companies to accelerate commercialization, growth and globalization to create more Build-to-Scale companies – from Canada.


The Project Manager will have proven operational management skills, and an ability to quickly identify roadblocks and risks to ensure the timely progression of reporting requirements. The role requires a strong service mentality, as well as strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to lead via influence. The Project Manager will work collaboratively, and cross-functionally, with internal teams to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of project targets.

The individual should be able to demonstrate a high degree of drive, focus and purpose, and be able to provide the support required to ensure timely and accurate reporting on an internal and external basis.



  • Oversee the project management of federally-funded projects.
  • Monitor project deliverables on a monthly basis to ensure targets are being met.
  • Ensure reporting from Project Participants (startups) and Project Partners (multinational corporations) is provided accurately and on time.
  • Adhere to project reporting guidelines, (based on a monthly or quarterly reporting schedule, which is still to be determined).
  • Other duties as required.


  • Preferred post-secondary education in business, finance/accounting, economics or a related field with 2-4 years of related business experience, preferably in a not-for-profit or government organization
  • Previous experience in project management of federally or provincially funded projects resulting in the ability to contribute with knowledge of industry best practice
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and G-Suite
  • Ability to work with monthly deadlines and time constraints on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be a hands-on self- starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working with Salesforce, or another CRM and ERP software
  • The ability to quickly analyze, understand and interpret business requirements
  • Proven ability to self-check work to ensure results are error-free
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, with a variety of people at all levels to drive a desired outcome
  • Strong understanding of business drivers and KPIs
  • Able to multi-task and to prioritize activities to achieve a desired outcome
  • Team player, able to lead work in a project environment and contribute to the work of others
  • Effective task planning to eliminate last minute pressure to meet deadlines.
