Lab Manager - Hardware Catalyst Initiative

Position Profile

ventureLAB is looking for a highly capable and experienced Lab Manager. The successful candidate must have strong experience using various oscilloscopes, spectrum and frequency analyzers, and other typical electrical lab equipment. They will also participate in the selection and commissioning of the lab equipment and provide training to lab clients. He or she must be able to facilitate effective maintenance and calibration of all lab equipment. Experience with failure analysis, troubleshooting, soldering/desoldering of SMT components will be key assets. General lab management such as scheduling, secure access, monitoring equipment usage will also be required.

The individual should be able to demonstrate a high degree of drive, focus, and purpose, and be able to operate and maintain an electronics lab.


Key Skills

  • Highly capable in operation of lab equipment including: Oscilloscopes, Signal Analyzers, Frequency Generators, Power Supplies, DMMs, VNA, BERT Analyzers.
  • Experienced in commissioning new lab equipment.
  • Experience with making equipment acquisition recommendations (including rent or buy) based on client test requirements.
  • Proficient in training others in proper and safe use of lab equipment.
  • Experienced in managing lab and equipment usage.
  • Able to demonstrate/present lab capabilities to external visitors.
  • Very knowledgeable on ESD best practices and ensuring these are rigorously followed.
  • Maintain lab equipment and schedule routine calibration (both on-site and off-site).
  • Manage equipment supplier relationships.
  • Report on equipment utilization.
  • Maintain and report on lab equipment inventory (including asset tagging) and operational status.
  • Manage physical lab access and security
  • Able to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Good soldering and SMT component rework skills.


  • Failure analysis/troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with creating test automation scripts
  • Experience in bench characterization of ICs
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610


  • Some off-hour support may be required due to off-hour usage of test lab

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics engineering or related degree.
  • Minimum 10 years working in product design, failure analysis, and/or test lab
  • Minimum 2 years managing an electronics lab
