The ventureLAB Podcast Episode 7: What is human capital management?

“Don’t hire dicks, don’t hire whiners, don’t hire Eeyores.”

– Sarah Prevette

In this episode of The ventureLAB podcast, Sarah Prevette talks about her experience starting Sprouter, BetaKit and Future Design School. Sarah has hired dozens of people over her career and she shares insights about the types of people to look for. Sarah places a huge emphasis on happiness. If a candidate doesn’t seem like a happy person, they may not work out in the end and they can spread toxicity like wildfire. In the same way she emphasizes her own responsibility for keeping the workplace happy for team members.

Sarah’s best advice? Don’t hire dicks, don’t hire whiners, don’t hire Eeyores.

What is Human Capital Management anyway?

According to Tech Target, “Human capital management (HCM) is the comprehensive set of practices for recruiting, managing, developing and optimizing the human resources of an organization.”

We also interview Jesse Moeinifar, founder of Viafoura, an online audience development platform for digital publishers like CBC and The Weather Network. Viafoura helps brands engage their audiences natively without having to rely on social media, increasing visitor retention and website traffic.
