Earlier this month, ventureLAB had the pleasure of hosting a presentation and information session on FABrIC, a national initiative designed to accelerate semiconductor innovation in Canada. Launched by the Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada and CMC Microsystems, FABrIC is a five year, $223 million project to secure Canada’s future in semiconductors.
The session brought together leaders and innovators from across the semiconductor ecosystem, all eager to learn how FABrIC is fueling advancements in semiconductor manufacturing, IoT product development, and fostering deeper national collaboration.
The session kicked off with a welcome from ventureLAB’s VP of Hardware Catalyst Initiative, Avinash Persaud, followed by remarks from Gord Harling, President and CEO of CMC Microsystems.
Lynn McNeil, Vice President of FABrIC then gave an insightful introduction to FABrIC, highlighting the initiative’s mission to drive innovation within Canada's semiconductor sector. Attendees were briefed on how FABrIC is strategically supporting Canadian companies, helping them access funding and resources for their semiconductor and IoT developments.
The session emphasized FABrIC's Challenge Calls initiative, Ecosystem Development and Innovation Platform.
Funding is available to startups, established companies, academic institutions and research organizations working on innovative semiconductor and IoT projects. Eligible applicants can apply through the FABrIC website by submitting proposals that highlight their project goals and expected impact. With such strong support from both the government and private sector, Canada is well on its way to becoming a global leader in semiconductor innovation.
