Sai-Kit Eng, Executive in Residence (EIR) at ventureLAB, brings 40 years of expertise in AI and technology to drive innovation and support startups in the Canadian tech community.
With 40 years in engineering and management, I've tackled everything from ASIC and Smartphone Multimedia technologies to Space Robotics, across companies big and small, including startups. Now, I'm at VentureLAB to give back to the Canadian tech community that's supported me. It's a fantastic way to stay connected, build relationships, and keep up with the rapid advancements, especially in AI tech. I'm excited to be part of this vibrant community and contribute however I can.
My recent expertise lies in advanced power-efficient integration technologies for smartphones, particularly focusing on AI technology developments. I have experience in both ASIC and software development, especially in multimedia areas such as audio, video, camera, graphics, and displays. My background includes R&D, program and project management, and operational management across all key areas: engineering, product development, financial planning, scheduling, equipment management, lab setup, facilities, and staffing. I'm passionate about pushing the boundaries of AI and technology to create innovative solutions that enhance user experiences. While I take pride in my accomplishments, I remain eager to learn and grow, always striving for excellence in every project I undertake.
For startups, it's vital to build a team with a solid grasp of both the technology and your customers' business needs—whether they seek products, services, or both, and what they’re willing to pay for. Partnerships are essential to deliver complete solutions, as you can’t do it all alone. Remember that competition might also come from within your customer’s company. Having an internal advocate through networking can be a game-changer. Lastly, ensure your team members’ strengths complement each other for a well-rounded approach.
